110 Bats in the Shade

Hey, Batfans!
-
-
Summertime, and the living is easy (once the kids are off at camp.)
-
Fish are jumping (but try the new wraps at Quirk Cafe. They'll be serving dinner, if you want, before the show.)
-
And the cotton is high (but not as high as you'll be after your pre-show cocktail. -- Check with individual Midway restaurants for availability!!! There are liquor licenses in progress...or slug a tall one in your car once it's parked.)
-
Oh, your daddy's rich (introduce us, please!)
-
And your mama's good looking (you're not bad yourself, Sweetie.)
-
So hush, little Batties, don't you cry (it's just another of those nasty mood swings.)
-
One of these evenings (July 21)
-
We're gonna rise up singing (at The Thoroughbred Theatre in Midway, KY.)
-
Then we'll spread our Batwings, and take to the sky (at 7:00, and we're ain't quittin' 'til 10:00.)
-
But 'til that evening (you can make reservations through Quirk Cafe, 859-846-4688. -- Dinner is a separate reservation.)
-
There ain't nothing can harm you (unless you don't pay the $15 cover charge, which includes dessert and coffee.
With mommy and daddy--and eight Bats)
-
Standing by (or hanging upside down, whichever comes naturally.)
-
Enough with the Gershwin!! In other exciting musical news, our own Jim Gleason and the rest of the fabulous Johnson Brothers will perform a repeat of their sold-out, note-for-note performance of The Beatles' White Album on July 7 and July 22 at Natasha's Cafe. Beat the waiting list now, and make your reservations at 259-2754. The Johnsons are known for their faithful "rockumentary" performances of difficult material, and they never disappoint, putting every devil in every detail. Be there or be Pete Best!!

And on Saturday, July 15, the greatest new grass band you've never heard of, The Waybacks, will be at The Dame, fresh off their appearance the night before at The Master Musicians Festival in Somerset. Check out The Waybacks (with Bob Weir) on David Gans' nationally-syndicated Grateful Dead Hour on your radio the week of July 3rd. Or take a look at this little write-up from Billboard Magazine: ""The Chicago Tribune says that the Waybacks offer 'a near-ideal balance of irreverence, chops, discipline, and originality,' and that actually sums it up quite well. This primarily acoustic folk-rock group is irreverent about genre boundaries, jumping gleefully back and forth between the lines that separate blues from bluegrass, rock from jazz, and Celtic music from pop, but they're never so irreverent that they just sound goofy. Very highly recommended." - All Music Guide, Billboard Magazine
And this is maybe the coolest part: one of The Waybacks is Warren Hood, son of DesChamps Hood and cousin to Marshall Hood of, you guessed it, The DesChamps Band. What a small, wonderful world we live in, and it's all converging on Lexington!
