Hi Batfans,
-
Obviously you're out and about this Memorial Day Weekend, enjoying your veggie burgers and organic potato salad on the patio. Or blacktopping the driveway (finally). Or floating your boat at Lake Cumberland. Or, heck, you could be in Vegas with Celine, for all we know. Whatever you're doing and wherever you are, we're thinking about you and your insatiable need for top-notch musical entertainment the first weekend in June. As usual, we've got some ideas for you.
-
Saturday, June 2, THE BATS will play an early set at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Country Fair, 1750 Summerhill Drive in Lexington, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Free! (Sorry, cotton candy not included.) If you want to see 5 middle-aged women work up a sweat, this is your chance, 'cause we'll be in a big tent with 700 of our closest friends. Eat a corndog and stay for The Johnson Brothers at 8:30, if you're so inclined, OR head to Natasha's Cafe for real food and The Belleville Outfit (see below).
-
We've got more gigs coming up in June, as well. Check our web site, www.thebats.net.
-
Now, if you're not interested in anything that's non-BAT, stop reading right here, 'cause the rest of this insanely long missive is all about The Belleville Outfit or, as we like to call 'em, Missy's latest boytoy band adoptees. The Belleville Outfit is based in New Orleans, but has members and musical influences from all over the map. Americana, bluegrass, roots, jazz, swing... and when you see acoustic music being played with obvious joy by such young players, you'll want to adopt them, too. Take a look/listen at www.bellevilleoutfit.com. (And BTW, Rob, Jeff, and Marshall from The DesChamps Band are Bellevillers!)
-
And guess what? You'll have 4---count 'em, 4--opportunities to catch The Belleville Outfit while they're in town. It's an invasion!
-
Friday, June 1, they'll be hootin' and hollerin' under the big tent at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Country Fair, 1750 Summerhill Drive, in Lexington. This is a big family event, it's free, and Belleville will be playing early, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
Two minutes later, the boys will be scootin' their boots to AZUR RESTAURANT AND PATIO, 3070 Lakecrest Circle in Beaumont Centre. They hope to have the music underway shortly after 8:00 PM. If you've never eaten at Azur, O. My. Gosh. You gotta do it. The food's fabulous, the patio's huge, and it's as hip-yet-grown-up a place as you're going to find around these parts. Call for reservations now, and ask to sit on the patio for Belleville. 859-296-1007. You can preview the menu at www.azurrestaurant.com.

Saturday, June 2, is another huge day for our boy wonders. In the afternoon, they'll be serenading the sommeliers among youat EQUUS RUN VINEYARDS. From 3:00 to 5:00 PM, you may sip, sample, and enjoy "Tunes in the Vines."
The Belleville Outfit is tickled as pink as a white zin to be part of this idyllic series of free afternoon concerts. Equus Run is at 1280 Moores Mill Road, Midway, KY. Call (859) 846-9463, or visit www.equusrunvineyards.com for details. And don't forget to designate a driver! -
Good thing Belleville is young, because that night--June 2--they'll kick into high gear with a full-out show at NATASHA'S CAFE, 112 Esplanade in downtown Lex. Expect to see a few BATS in the audience (and maybe on the dance floor?), since we'll be running to Natasha's after our early gig at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. The show starts at 9:00, and you can make your reservations now at (859) 259-2754, or www.beetnik.com. Cover is $8. Those boys have to pay for gas, you know, since they're stopping here between gigs in NOLA and NC.
-
One last little thing: Listen for Belleville live on WUKY 91.3 FM (where NPR rocks!) on Friday, June 1, between 11 AM and 1 PM.
-
Whew! Time for that burger, Celine. Tell Rene and the twins to fire up the grill.
