The Bats...and more!

Hey Batfans,
-
Although we're on a bit of a hiatus in May, we thought we'd let you in on some pretty great events (musical and non) coming up in the next few weeks. Two involve a Batman, one is an exciting opportunity for a Bat, one has to do with our animal companions, and a few will introduce you to a new band from NOLA. And you thought this summer was going to be dull and dry, like your hair before you washed that man right out of it.

First off, our own Guitar Jim Gleason will appear with The Johnson Brothers on Saturday, May 19, at Natasha's Cafe, reprising Steely Dan Night--yep, all Steely Dan, all night. New songs added, too! Downbeat's at 9:00 or so. Reservations at 259-2754.
-
Then on Sunday, May 20, our Melanie Johnson (no relation to the aforementioned Brothers) heads to Nashville for another prestige-laden appearance at The Bluebird Cafe. Melanie is in a select group regularly invited to perform at Music City's premiere showcase for working songwriters. We're so proud of her, we can't stand it! If you're interested in seeing Melanie at The Bluebird, Google their website for further details. And if you'd like to see what all the fuss is about, buy her new CD, Soul of a Spy, on CD Baby or at www.melaniejohnsonmusic.com.

On Saturday, May 26, plan to be up and at 'em early for our bass player Marianne Sherman's "pet" (ha!) project, Skelter for the Shelter, a 5K run and 2K fun run/dog walk to benefit the Jessamine Humane Society in Nicholasville, Kentucky. It'll be a big family event, with prizes galore, Bats in attendance, and the welfare of our furry friends at heart. Lots of details on the web site, www.skelterfortheshelter.org. See you there!

Wait, there's more. Lots, lots more.

On Saturday, June 2...golly, there's almost more stuff than we can handle on that day. Here goes.
THE BATS will be performing from 6:30 to 7:30 at the annual St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Country Fair (SEAS), under the Big Top, and it's free, baby, free! Drop the kids into the Tilt-A-Whirl or give 'em ten bucks to blow on the ring toss, and park your tiny bum at the big tables near the stage. The address is 1750 Summerhill Dr in Lexington, and you'll have to MapQuest it, y'all, 'cause we're hopeless with that kind of stuff.
Now, here's the thing. That same night, you'll have two post-Bat choices, and both of 'em are so good, it's killing us to have to pick only one. If you stay at SEAS, you'll be able to catch The Johnson Brothers playing their classic rock from 8:30 to 11:00. But, if you head back downtown to Natasha's Cafe, you can join Missy at 9-ish for The Belleville Outfit's debut in Lexington. (Reservations at 259-2754.)
-
Remember The DesChamps Band from last summer? Well, The Belleville Outfit is sort of a bigger DesChamps, with some of the same adorable guys, plus drums and keyboards. They're still playing acoustic swing and jazz, and they're still impossibly young. Belleville recently played at Merlefest in NC, and have been deluged with booking requests ever since. So we're lucky we got 'em when we did.
-
AND NOT ONLY THAT, Belleville will also be at SEAS on June 1 from 6:30 to 7:30, and at Equus Run on June 2 from 3:00 to 5:00 for Equus' wonderful "Tunes in the Vines" series.
So you've got plenty of opportunities to catch this soon-to-be-famous group. Check them out at www.bellevilleoutfit.com. (Wait'll you hear Caroline.) And bring your young folk! So far, we know about 35 teenage girls who want to marry The Belleville Outfit, or at least a part thereof. As for us....can we just say "tadpole?"
-
So much for June 2! But...there's more?
Friday, June 15, THE BATS will be in Danville, Kentucky (at The Danville Country Club, how about that?) for a special evening benefiting The Central Kentucky Cancer Program at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. This event is open to the public, but you must RSVP to Amanda Bibb at 859-239-2361. She'll give you the skinny. We expect to see all our Danville fans there, for sure. -
AND ONE MORE THING. (Whew, this is exhausting!) THE BATS will be back at Natasha's Cafe for 2 shows on Friday, June 29. Dinner show at 7:30 ($10 cover): Cocktail Show at 10:00 ($7 cover). The usual craziness, with air conditioning to counter our hot flashes. Reservations, beginning June 4, at 259-2754.
-
That's everything, thank goodness! May we have a cocktail now?
